Student's Bio
Janet Mariadoss is a Junior in the College of Arts and Science. She is majoring in Neuroscience and Medicine, Health, and Society. Last summer she worked with Dr. Kendra Oliver in the Communication of Science and Technology Program to study multidisciplinary collaborations from a project management and organizational design lens. There have been exciting and creative multidisciplinary endeavors that combine science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines with art (STEAM) to increase the public's engagement with science. Integrating art allows for more creative and multidisciplinary collaboration that can have a broader impact on a variety of audiences. However, integrating STEM discipline with other disciplinary perspectives can lead to major communication and organization obstacles. This project examines higher-education STEM multidisciplinary partnerships and develops a set of suggestions to undertake such projects. It also presents a case study of the “Nested Knowledge” project with the goal of guiding collaborations to engage communities and impact public opinion more effectively.
