Student's Bio
Athira Sivadas is a junior undergraduate from Bear, DE. She is majoring in Biochemistry and Chemical Biology as well as Medicine, Health, and Society, and is part of the College Scholars Honors Program at Vanderbilt. After the pandemic began, she became interested in coronaviruses and she joined the Plate Lab in her sophomore year. She is currently investigating the effects of SARS-CoV-2 nonstructural proteins on cellular processes, specifically the unfolded protein response, using research techniques such as cell culture and mass spectrometry. As she continues her research journey, she hopes to explore the interactions between different SARS-CoV-2 proteins and how they modulate each other’s expression in vitro. In her free time, she enjoys catching up on recent discoveries made about SARS-CoV-2 by reading new scientific literature.
